Family SOS Charitable Organization

Hello,
We just wanted to give you a little more information about Family SOS and why we chose to work with them these next few months.
Family SOS is a local non-profit, child-centered organization directed toward building strong and healthy families. They have programs for parents, youth and children. They focus on:
- increasing parenting confidence
- developing relationships within families
- fostering self-awareness
- improving confidence in children and youth
- encouraging pro-social choices
- strengthening communication within the family
- improving health and well being
- empowering self-sustainability
They offer in home parenting support, support groups specifically for Mom’s and Dad’s, support groups, they run healthy teens and kids programs, as well as a safe space to talk for teens and programs aimed to teach teens and children cyber safety.
Family SOS came on my radar last June when many of their hives for their social enterprise project BEEA Honey with Heart were destroyed by vandals. While something like that might drag most people down the Youth involved with the project bounced back and became more successful than ever – winning a cheque for $20,000 at the Now! Nova Scotia Make Good News Awards! Their resilience is something we can all learn from. They don’t let anything stop them from achieving their goals.
It’s that resilience that made me want to help them when we started throwing out names of organizations to help this year. I reached out to Simone, Community Engagement Officer at Family SOS, on ways we could help because we did not want to just give money – we wanted to become involved. She suggested several ways we could help and we settled on collecting bigger games and art work to jazz up the youth and child spaces, a fresh coat of paint (Our slogan is We Do Painting – You Do Life so this was a no brainer!) for their office and youth space, and attending their trivia night as a team in March.
So far we have collected quite a few pieces of art but we’re still on the hunt for some bigger games (think fooseball table, ping pong, giant jenga) so if you are looking to get rid of any of these games (or know someone who is) please send me an email ([email protected]) and I can arrange to pick them up!
If you would like more information about the upcoming trivia night make sure you follow us on facebook. If you would like more information about Family SOS and their BEEA Honey with Heart project please check out the links below:
