Signs Stucco Needs to Be Repaired in Northwest Florida
Posted on June 2, 2023
Many homes in Florida are built with an exterior made of stucco, and there are several solid reasons as to why. Stucco creates that look of old world charm and is aesthetically pleasing; it looks classy and pulled together. Even further, stucco is solid and strong, and insulates well so that your home costs less to cool and saves energy. Stucco reduces noise to block unwanted sounds and help provide a quiet, peaceful home environment. It is fire resistant, recommended by FEMA as one of the most fire-resistant materials with which to build. So if you own a home made of stucco, you want to maintain it well and keep it looking nice and new. The time might come where you need repairs or areas might need to be replaced. How do you know?
- Discoloration: Brown or rust colored streaks, especially near windows or door areas are a sign of water damage.
- Cracks: These should not be larger than ⅛ inch. Have a professional look at any larger cracks to inspect for damage.
- Bulging: on walls, soft areas, loose spots, indentations, or crumbling stucco need to be looked at.
- Cracks/Bubbles: If you have cracks or bubbles that run along the bottom of a wall it could be a sign of poor drainage.
- Smells of mold or mildew: If your carpet is damp, again, look for water damage or a leak.*
*Professionals should always address any and all water damage issues first, then repair and replace stucco.

CertaPro Painters® of Northwest Florida Stucco Repair Process
- We thoroughly prep the area before beginning any of the exterior painting. After repairs have been made, we’ll gently clean the stucco with a pressure washer to remove any excess debris.
- Once the stucco surface completely dries, we will apply a paint primer to seal the stucco surface.
- We then apply additional coats of elastomeric paint, which is waterproof and contracts and expands to ensure the stucco withstands the test of time. This specialized paint coating can also be tinted to almost any color, so you aren’t limited to color choices when designing your commercial space.
