How to Safely Clean Painted Interior Walls

Posted on April 12, 2023

We love our Northwest Florida homes to look nice, cozy, clean and inviting. However, they will eventually have a “lived-in” look since we spend so much time living in them. The walls will become dingy and stained; if we have little children running around, there might be doodles and crayon marks. We can easily clean painted walls with a few tips listed below.

Tips for Safely Cleaning Interior Walls:

  1. Dingy and dusty– You can use a soft-bristled brush, cloth, or the attached brush to vacuum and first remove all dirt and debris. Then, use warm water, vinegar, and mild dish detergent to clean the walls. If there is mud, scrape it off first with a dull knife.
  2. Stains– First, use the procedure above, but instead of using detergent, add one cup of white vinegar to a bucket of warm water. If the walls are dirty and stained, clean them with a bucket of soapy water first, then tackle stains with vinegar water. The vinegar will not harm your painted walls.
  3. Crayon– If you have crayon marks on walls, use a blunt knife to scrape off the wax carefully. Then use a soft cloth dipped in warm water mixed with vinegar to clean the area of any residue. Finally, dry the area with a soft, dry cloth.
  4. Avoid: Please avoid using any alcohol-based cleaning products on walls because they can sometimes damage the paint or cause discoloration.

Time to repaint? Sometimes walls are to the point where they have had years of dents, dings, scratches, and discoloration. It may be time to repaint your walls. Call CertaPro Painters® of Northwest Florida for a free consultation and quote.
