Drywall Repair: Our Steps to a Professional Finish

You think, “Ah, now I need to cover that up.” Minor cosmetic damage to drywall is easily fixable, but when repainting an entire room or your whole house, that is the time to repair damaged drywall.

1. Inspection and identifying damage: The crew will take note of all cosmetic damage (tiny holes, removals, popping nails, furniture scuffs) as well as more severe cracks and damp patches, which could be signs of structural damage. Instead of simply painting over minor defects or hanging that picture to cover them, this is the perfect time to repair any damaged drywall when you are repainting. If you were to put your home on the market, the walls would already be flawless for a showing, for example.
2. Repair: The team will determine which drywall repair technique is required for the damage on your walls. If only minor dents and holes are the issue, they can be easily repaired with spackle and paint. With water damage or impact-damaged drywall, this will need to be cut out and patched with new segments of drywall. Finally, the repaired areas are lightly sanded, and a fresh coat of matching paint is applied.
3. Prime Drywall: This is an essential step. The texture of drywall is such that if you paint directly over the skim coat, it will not result in a fully even surface. So, the drywall priming process includes sanding down, wiping, cleaning, and applying a drywall primer/sealer, which ensures a smooth texture and prevents the paint from absorbing into the drywall. If only small areas are repaired, they will only need to be primed; however, if more significant repairs are made, it will usually mean repriming the entire wall.
