5 Easy Home Improvement Projects For the Winter

Posted on December 20, 2019

If you’re like the rest of us, you’ve been cooped up inside lately. This is just the beginning of winter, with a handful of bleak, cold months to come. Don’t get frustrated. Break the monotony of winter with an interior project. You’ll increase your happiness and property value at the same time. Here are 5 easy home improvement projects for the winter.

1. Paint

You’ve spent the last few weeks staring at your neutral walls. Brighten your room with a new, cheerful color to update the room. A new coat of paint is an inexpensive upgrade for your room. Crack the windows and a gallon to get started. You’ll find that your paint dries more effectively and better with the cool breezes.

2. Work on Your Floors

Do your floors leave something to be desired? Tired of freezing feet? Add some carpet to compliment the new walls for a completely redone room for a minimal cost. When you put the carpet down, remember that it will put some toxic fumes off to begin with. It’s another good time to open the windows for a cool breeze to sweep the smells away.

3. Declutter

Don’t save spring cleaning for spring. Since you’re hiding indoors anyway, spend time sifting through piles of clutter. Pick a problem area and get to work separating the mess. Since you’re cleaning now, when the weather breaks, you can head directly outside into the fresh air.

While you’re decluttering, take the opportunity to incorporate some baskets, boxes and containers for hiding messes. To keep a feel through the room, use paint on mismatched items. The color will tie in the rest of the room giving you a flow throughout.

4. Look at Your Bathroom

Bathrooms are the home of so many messes. Is yours looking less than stellar? Update it now. Maybe you need a full upgrade with a new bathroom paint throughout. There are new paints on the market that will prevent mold, mildew and keep up with the humidity of the room. Using these paints now will give you a good outlook for years to come.

Take on the sink and cabinets for a new feel without renovating the whole room. Changing the faucet and accessories can make a big difference. Replacing the cabinet can be a large expense. With some work, or hiring a crew, you can paint the old cabinet to get the feel of new cabinets without the expense.

5. Add Insulation

Insulation isn’t just a cosmetic home improvement item, but it will make your family feel better and you wallet more full. Working in the attic over the winter is far more comfortable than the heat of summer. If you can see the floor joists when you head into the attic, you need more insulation. Also look at your basement and crawl spaces.
