In October of 2022, CertaPro Painters of North San Diego was contacted to fully repaint the exterior of our local Fallbrook Fire Station. The building was constructed almost fifty years ago, so checking for lead paint was the first priority. When the lead paint report came back positive, we knew what this property required. This project required renovation, repairs, and painting all according to the highest standards of safe working practices when dealing with lead paint. CHALLENGES:
As a building responsible for housing equipment for first responders, it was our duty to schedule and organize our painting in such a way as to avoid disrupting their operations. The fire team set a schedule to ensure they consistently had their roll-up doors open in case of emergency.
A scissor lift had to be used to reach high areas that ladders could not reliably cover.
Much like commercial property painting, our focus was on achieving both quality painting followed by proper cleanup for both curb appeal and quality assurance.
CONDITIONS:
Lead Paint – Scraping and removing loose lead paint was a priority, as was proper disposal of waste. Professionalism is our priority!
Stucco Damage – The Fallbrook heat had done a number on this property exterior over the years.
Worn Metal Surfaces – Scuff sanding for doors and metal surfaces was vital to complete the renovation process with a consistently high quality of work.
PROJECT INVOLVEMENT
Preparations – A color consultation and lead-paint check is customary for all CertaPro Painting Projects. Once both are completed, we talk with the property supervisor about points of concern and exterior imperfections both small and large.
Scraping Loose Paint – Standard paint chips can be disposed of in the garbage, but lead paint is considered hazardous and requires greater care.
Stucco Repairs – A patching material such as stucco mix is typical applied to the damaged area using a trowel, though the process is more involved if the stucco damage is severe.
Spot Priming – Applying primer to small and localized areas ensures that when the top-coat is applied, the paint adheres smoothly and without issue.
Painting – As the photos below indicate, the Fallbrook Fire Station transitioned from a faded green to a bold red color scheme.
