Painting Stucco The Right Way
Posted on October 19, 2019
If you want to test whether a painter is a good one, ask him how he will paint your stucco exterior. If he says he will use a roller, tell him to have a nice day. Now, if the painter says he will spray your home, you can continue to consider him for your exterior painting project.
Of course, this is not an issue if you decide to hire the stucco painting experts at CertaPro Painters® of North San Diego. Our entire team of professional painters knows how to paint stucco the right way.
So, what is the right way to paint stucco?
Stucco Repair Comes First
The first step is to repair the stucco. The paint job will not look good if the exterior is riddled with cracks and holes.
There’s no need to hire someone to repair your stucco. Our team knows how to do it.
They will fill cracks with acrylic latex caulk. This will give it a smooth finish, making it ready for paint.
Stucco Painting Is Next
After the repairs have been made, our team will start painting with an airless sprayer.
Don’t worry about your bushes, stairs, walkway, etc. because we make sure to protect your property from being painted. Just watch this video about how CertaPro Painters® takes good care of your property while painting.
The Cost of Exterior Stucco Painting
It is impossible to tell you how much you can expect to pay for exterior stucco repair and painting. Many factors are involved when coming up with a cost:
- Size of the home.
- Amount of repair work that needs to be performed.

Update to The Right Way to Paint Stucco
Dan Hutchins here, the owner of CertaPro Painters® of North San Diego. Recently, I was part of a conversation with someone who said stucco should never be painted. This myth is one that has been circulating for years and it was started by companies who sell competing products/services. The truth is stucco can be painted and in my 25 years of painting experience, I have seen first hand time and time again the beautiful results of painted stucco. Again, as long as it is painted the right way.
The most important part of painting stucco is to know that masonry surfaces, such as stucco, require a breathable and flexible paint (i.e. 100% acrylic latex flat). This paint bonds great to stucco once it is cleaned and properly prepared to receive it (filled cracks and spot priming done).
The reason many people believe in the myth that you can’t paint stucco is that they had a bad experience with using the wrong paint or not preparing the exterior properly. The good news is any experienced painter knows how to make stucco look brand new just by painting it. That’s why you should always turn to CertaPro Painters® of North San Diego for stucco painting.
