
How to Prepare Your Home for an Interior Painting Project

Starting your interior painting project with Certapro Painters® of Mountainside? We’re here to make the process as smooth and efficient as possible. Here’s a helpful guide on how to prepare your home for interior painting and ensure everything goes according to plan.
Typical Crew Start Time
Our typical crew starts between 8:00 am – 9:00 am. Please note that someone from our team or the original estimator may arrive later due to outside factors like weather or changes in the scope of prior jobs. If your start date is affected, we will contact you as soon as possible.
What Our Painting Crew Will Handle
Unless otherwise stated in your agreement, Certapro Painters® of Mountainside will handle the following tasks to make your painting project easier:
- Move large furniture into the center of the room
- Cover floors with drop cloths, plastic, or construction paper
- Protect furniture with painter’s plastic or sheathing
- Move furniture back to its original position after the job is complete
- Remove and dispose of trash, leftover materials, and empty cans
- Leave leftover paint cans for your records and touch-ups
How to Prepare for Your Interior Painting Project
To ensure efficiency, safety, and the best results, please complete the following before our team arrives:
Personal Items
Remove small, fragile, or valuable items from the rooms to be painted. This includes items on shelves, countertops, and tables.
Wall Decorations
Take down pictures, mirrors, clocks, and other wall hangings from the walls to be painted. We are not responsible for any damage to items left on the walls.
Electronics
Unplug and store electronic devices safely in the areas to be painted. Please note: We do not remove or install wall-mounted TVs or other installed electronics.
Window Treatments
Remove curtains, drapes, blinds, or any other window treatments to allow full access to window frames and trim.
Closets and Storage Areas
Empty closets or storage areas that are part of the painting project to allow unrestricted access.
Pets
Keep pets out of the working areas. If there are special instructions regarding pet containment, please inform your Job Site Supervisor.
Property Access
Ensure we have access to all areas scheduled for painting. Unlock doors and provide any necessary keys or access codes.
Parking
If there are parking restrictions at your residence, please inform us in advance. For apartments or condos with limited parking, let us know the best location.

Walkthrough and Project Communication
To ensure your complete satisfaction with the finished project, our Job Site Supervisor will be available to answer questions throughout the process and will conduct a final walkthrough with you upon completion. You are not expected to make the final payment until this walkthrough has been completed.
Project Updates
The Job Site Supervisor or our Production Associate will keep you informed about the project’s progress and expected completion time.
Final Walkthrough
Upon completion, the Job Site Supervisor will walk through your home with you to ensure all work meets your expectations. They will address any questions or concerns you may have.
Primary Contact
Your on-site Job Site Supervisor will be your main point of contact during the project.
Payment and Approval
After the walkthrough, please sign our copy of the job proposal and provide the final payment to the Job Site Supervisor.
Please set aside time to meet with our Job Site Supervisor for the final walkthrough. We want to ensure you’re completely satisfied before wrapping up the project!
