In January of 2024, CertaPro Painters® of Minnetonka, MN, meticulously removed the old wallpaper at a customer’s home in Hopkins, MN, to refresh and update the interior appearance of the home.

Describe the condition of the walls/surfaces at the time work began.

The room felt very dark and dated with wallpaper. It’s always a mystery how the wallpaper removal will go. You never know until you get into it if the walls were properly prepared before installing wallpaper. This determines how much damage there will be to the walls upon removal of the wallpaper.

What did the project involve?

We first removed the wallpaper and then skim-coated any areas that needed it before painting.

Were there any special challenges involved?

The wallpaper removal went fairly smoothly. It is a messy, time-consuming project that takes a lot of patience. As I mentioned, it is always a mystery as to what is underneath the wallpaper. Upon removal of the wallpaper, we realized that the walls had been painted before the wallpaper installation. The walls were in decent condition but the paint color was a bit dark. We ended up having to paint a third coat to cover the dark paint color.

Did the project require any special equipment or techniques?

We used a wallpaper steamer to assist in the removal process.

How long did the project take, from start to finish?

Two days.
