Prep Work

The home looked a little shabby upon arrival. There was a great deal of peeling on the front of the home along with rotten wood lining the bottom of the garage doors, as well as rotten siding on the right side of the home. With this in mind, we knew that we needed to clear the canvas before bringing our design choices to life.

We scraped away a fair amount of loose paint, primed all the bare wood on the exterior of the home, restored the cedar trimming on the garage, and replaced the aforementioned rotten siding. All of this was done to ensure proper adhesion of the new paint coating.

Challenges

The customer wanted to fully transform the exterior of their home, but they didn’t know where to start in terms of a color palette. We advised them that a blue and white color scheme would result in a modest, yet eye-catching appearance. After putting this idea into practice, we decided to paint their playhouse as well, adding to this project’s visual cohesion.

We also encountered a bit of trouble locating new siding to replace those rotten boards. We knew that finding boards with the right size and texture would be integral to the project’s success. So, after visiting several lumber yards, we were finally able to source new siding that was nearly identical to the original boards used.

The Finished Product

We were able to fully complete this project in an astonishingly short time frame and the homeowners were ecstatic at the result. Two and a half days prior, this home’s siding and cedar trimming were visibly rotting away in several places. The decades-old paint was also peeling away, making for an overall gloomy exterior. We got straight to work, husking the layers of decay to set the stage for the real project.

Then, with a clean slate, we gave the home a complete makeover by painting most of the siding with a regal blue, as well as white highlights to make it pop.
