The Landings of Minnetonka
In October of 2021, CertaPro Painters of Minnetonka, MN completed this commercial painting project at The Landings of Minnetonka, a 72-unit senior living facility. In addition to addressing damage on the walls and doors sustained over time from wheelchairs, food carts, walkers and other equipment, the staff were hoping to create an updated, uplifting color scheme for the residents to enjoy.
Project Scope
There were two primary tasks laid out for our team with this project, with the ultimate goal being to create a safer and more uplifting environment for staff and residents alike:
Wall painting – Each wall would be given two fresh coats of paint in a new color scheme, done using a relatively high-sheen top coat that would resist scuffing and be easy for staff to clean, since many residents place their hands on them for stability.
Railing and door painting – For the surfaces that see even more regular contact from residents, the railings and doors in the facility would be coated in a urethane-based product that has high tensile strength and would withstand impacts from wheelchairs, walkers, canes and carts without chipping or peeling.
Challenges
Since this project was undertaken in an assisted living environment, we needed to make sure we took the utmost health and safety precautions. This started with daily COVID testing for any member of our team that would be entering the facility, which was carried out without any issues.
Outside of the regular COVID testing, other health and safety considerations needed to be taken into account to ensure minimal disruption to the facility’s residents. One of these considerations was how to avoid having to fully close off any residential portions of the facility, especially for residents with limited mobility. To this end, we lined each hallway with cardboard paper that would not only protect carpets and other non-painted surfaces from paint splash, but would be much easier for residents in wheelchairs or walkers to traverse than a typical plastic covering.
The Finished Product
After only 8 days in the facility, the project was completed, and the staff were thrilled with the results! In particular, they complimented the friendliness of our crews and the efforts we took to ensure minimal disruption to residents throughout the process. We’re also proud of the work our crew did, and are equally pleased with the new look and enhanced safety that we’ve been able to give to the residents!
