Commercial Case Study
Nail Salon
In October of 2021, CertaPro Painters of Minnetonka, MN was contracted to give a fresh new look at this nail salon in Wayzata. The project would need to be completed in a very tight time frame to avoid interfering with the salon’s normal operations, and care would need to be taken to protect the delicate equipment within.
Project Scope
Originally, the ceiling in the salon was painted a very deep black color, resulting in an aesthetic for the room that was far darker than what the owners desired. With this in mind, they wanted it repainted in a bright white shade which would open the room up and brighten the tone overall.
To ensure consistency with this color, we elected to use a “high-hide” primer from Benjamin Moore under two top coats of ceiling paint, and to spray it on rather than roll it. With this combination of material and technique, we would be able to paint the entire surface in a single day.
Challenges
The biggest challenge overall was to ensure all of the furniture, fixtures and equipment would be protected from paint. In addition to the obvious risks posed by working on the ceiling, this was a high-end salon with top-shelf equipment and exquisite furnishings all around, so we were sure to take extra care by covering every single surface that wouldn’t be painted, including the floors, were covered in paper or plastic.
Additionally, the project was slated to be completed in the course of a single weekend to avoid interfering with the salon’s normal business hours. We started prepping at 5:00 pm on Saturday and came back on Sunday to focus on painting and cleaning the space. Thanks to this focused, well-planned schedule and the aforementioned choice of materials and application techniques, this tight time frame proved no match for our expert crews!
The Finished Product
The owners and staff were thrilled with the refreshing, bright look that the white ceiling brought into the salon. In addition to the aesthetic benefit, the staff also noted that it became easier to work with their customers since the new color reflected light around the room much better.
In our post-project inspection, we were able to notice some gaps between the wall and ceiling that were previously not noticeable against the original black color. We returned a few days later to caulk them up and ensure the owners were delighted with the overall project.
