Project Overview

In April 2023 CertaPro Painters of Southern Maryland power washed and stained the new dock at Chesapeake Yacht Club in Shady Side, MD. This project required expertise and efficient use of time to ensure a professional quality stain, despite the risk from the elements.

Prep and Equipment

The dock at Chesapeake Yacht Club was recently re-decked and was in need of staining. The project was planned in a way to avoid working on days that could have sudden rain, as this would interfere with the curing of the stain. With enough consecutive days of clear weather planned, our team took action. Before staining, the wood was power-washed to clean away any dirt or debris and left to dry completely.

Challenges

Working around the volatile Spring weather was the biggest challenge for this project. The project was planned for April to take advantage of the lower humidity at that time of year – this reduced the risk of mold or mildew prior to staining. The crew also had to be extremely careful while applying the stain to make sure that nothing got on any boats, dock lines or equipment which were already in the water. The goal was to complete the work within two days. Our team worked long hours using the most highly rated marine grade stain. The application was an elaborate process, with timing requirements needed to ensure proper curing.
