Spring is a Good Time to Paint Your Home Exteriors

Posted on May 30, 2020

With the thawing of the ground, locals in our area are eager to get outside. That includes our painters. While most people consider the exterior painting season during the summer, they are missing out on the opportunity to get a jump start on projects in the spring. Here’s why spring is a good time to paint your home exteriors.

After the winter weather has passed, make sure you take some time to inspect the exterior of your home. It can take a beating over the winter months and may be in need of repairs. Look for cracking and peeling as a sign the paint is failing. Also, mildew, mold and staining from water are another telltale sign that your home needs some love.

If you find any signs that water is beginning to seep into your home, now is the time to act. By ignoring the signs, you are allowing more costly repairs to develop. At least have a professional inspect the areas in question and make suggestions. Once repairs are made, add a new coating of paint to protect your home while making it more beautiful. Here’s why you should paint in spring.

Longevity of the job.

Spring weather is the perfect blend of winter and summer. The humidity and mercury haven’t risen to the heights of summer yet. Not only will this keep the painters working on your job more comfortable, it will allow your paint to dry more naturally. This means the paint could last several seasons longer before needing addressed again.

Better for landscaping and gardens.

Exterior painting can cause run off and damage to landscaping surrounding the house. If you choose to paint in spring, do it before the gardens and beds are planted. Trim back what’s left of the winter plants to allow painters to get next to your home’s walls. This will keep them from trampling any new plants and flowers you’ve put in. After the painting work is done, plant new flowers and shrubbery to highlight your home.

Scheduling is easier.

Again, since most homeowners don’t run to painters until later into the summer months, scheduling your estimate and work is much easier this season. Where summer months mean days and sometimes weeks of waiting on availability for estimates and jobs, the spring is much slower. Painting crews are eager to get back to doing exteriors and that only benefits your job.

Catch repairs sooner.

With each springtime inspection, you may notice water damage or paint failure. Allowing either problem to fester under the surface is only going to turn into (really) expensive repairs. Addressing them now and putting the necessary repairs and painting in place will protect your home through the next several seasons without worry.

Reduce costs for work.

By booking your work now, you could benefit from specials that some painters offer to stimulate work at the beginning of the season. Not all painting providers do this but it’s worth checking into since it does seem somewhat common.
