Curb Colors: 12 Exterior Paint Colors to Help Sell Your House

Posted on February 6, 2019

Looking to sell your home? Nothing goes further in the selling process than repainting your home in a new exterior color. It’s the first impression your home will give the new owners. Make sure you choose a shade that has a wide appeal and will want to make the owners come home to it. That doesn’t mean you have to choose boring. Here are 12 exterior paint colors to help sell your house.

Off-White
This is a cautious and widely accepted color for exterior paint. If your home has exterior bricks or other facades, this is a great option to let the adornments stand out. It’s also a great way to let a pop of color make you stand out. Blue shutters or a red door look great with an off-white background.

Gray
Gray can seem drab if it’s not paired with a more vibrant color. Even monochrome light gray with a darker color used for the trim adds a bit of flair to a home. A gray home allows lush landscaping to stand out against the quiet colors.

Taupe
Another neutral getting more use recently is taupe. Classic and neutral, taupe allows your home’s character to shine through. It’s a good base so new homeowners can envision their own accents on the home.

Putty
A trend in home exteriors is warm colors that blend in with their natural surroundings. The colors are close to the stone, ground, or landscape found near your home. Putty is a nice blend of grey and brown giving the home’s architecture a chance to lead the show.

Blue Gray
A blue-gray color brings the feeling of nautical to a home. It’s serene and provides a nice alternative to paler colors. Paired with white trim, it can liven up the exterior of your home.

Light Blue
Blue used to be relegated to waterfronts and coastlines. More and more, homes are being painted to bring the coastal feel to them. Choose a light blue combined with painted darker elements in the architecture made to stand out.

Wheat
Not yellow, not white, a brown-yellow creates both a warm and clean feeling. You can spruce up this color with either dark brown or gray-blue accents around windows and doors. As an added benefit, this home will look radiant next to a bright green lawn.

Yellow
Yellow registers in the brain as happy. Be cautious to go too far into the bright yellow scheme which can turn off some buyers. Pale yellows are best and will attract many potential buyers.

Cypress Green
As a toned-down green, the gray tones in this make a nice contrast to nearly any color you’d like to accent. Grey or black shutters or a nice wooden porch pop next to this muted green.

White
White farmhouses will always have a wide appeal. Bonus points if you also have clapboard or brick making your home an American classic. When choosing your white, do not go for a pure white, get one with creamy undertones or subtle yellows.

Sable Brown
Earthy colors hold a wide appeal for potential buyers. Dark, earthy sable brown makes a statement, reading psychologically as this house is solid and here to stay. Trim it with red, blue, black, or white, and the home will stand out against others in the neighborhood.

Lighthouse Red
It’s a bold choice, lighthouse red is cherry while being traditional and still fresh. No matter if your home is in suburbia or a forest, it will stand out against any background.
