Repainting a historic home in League City

Posted on January 12, 2021

In the early 1900s, the Ghirardi family from Italy were some of the first people to populate League City. The family, along with 11 Italian immigrant families, farmed the local area growing fruits and vegetables that were sold locally. These families hailed from the Piedmont region of Italy at the foot of the Alps and took quite a journey to reach Texas. Their early home has been moved almost 100 years after it was built, to its current location in 2002. The home is now in the care of the Butler Longhorn Museum and Heritage Park. The Ghirardi house has been completely restored and converted into the League City Italian Heritage Museum.

A great deal of work and expert care went into restoring the property and part of the restoration process involved stripping away decades of paint, including lead paint, and repairing and repainting the exterior of the home. Watch as the pros from CertaPro Painters of League City and Galveston transform this very dated old farmhouse into “as new” condition as it makes its journey to an education center that reveals texas farm life from early in the last century.

Here is how the house looked before restoration work began.
