The team removed rust and old paint using pressure washing and power tools, followed by priming and painting with oil-based enamel.
Working near the active tram system required careful coordination with the client to ensure safety and minimize disruption.
The project also involved significant rust removal, which demanded specialized tools and protective equipment.
Despite these challenges, the project was completed successfully, leaving the Jacksonville Transit Authority with restored, durable handrails and a renewed structure.

The Jacksonville Transit Authority tasked CertaPro Painters® of Jacksonville with restoring the handrails and steel structure surrounding their tram system. The project involved extensive rust removal, priming, and painting, with the goal of enhancing both the appearance and durability of the structure.
Challenges
This project presented several challenges. The location of the handrails around the tram system required careful coordination with the Jacksonville Transit Authority to ensure the safety of the crew and the functioning of the transit system. Rust removal was another obstacle, requiring power tools and protective equipment to properly address the extensive corrosion.
Process
Rust Removal:
Power tooling and pressure washing were essential in removing the rust and worn paint from the steel structure. This ensured a smooth surface for the new finish.
Priming & Painting:
The team applied a full coat of oil-based enamel to protect the steel, ensuring long-term durability and a fresh appearance.
Lift Equipment:
Due to the height and complexity of the structure, a lift was used to safely access all parts of the project.
Outcome
The handrails and steel structure were successfully restored and revitalized, leaving the Jacksonville Transit Authority highly satisfied with the results. The project, which was the first collaboration between CertaPro Painters® and the Jacksonville Transit Authority, set a positive foundation for future partnerships.
