Interior Flat vs Interior Matte vs Interior Satin

Posted on November 18, 2022

If you are preparing to paint the interior of your home, you may be wondering what the difference is between flat, matte, and satin paints. Here at CertaPro Painters® of Indianapolis, we value providing you with the latest painting industry information, so that you can make the best decisions for how you want the interior of your home to look after painting. Below we are letting you know about the differences between each interior paint, and when they should be used.

Interior Flat

Flat paints don’t have a sheen. They are great for covering up any imperfections on walls and ceilings. Their finished look is very classic and this type of paint can work well in most interior spaces like living rooms, bedrooms, home offices, and more. The downside to flat paint is that they can get dirty easily and you need to be very gentle when cleaning. However, there are a few paint brands that have more durable flat paints like Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore.

Interior Matte

Like flat paint, matte is also great for covering up any scuffs or imperfections inside of your home. Both matte and flat paint absorb light, so they provide a seamless look with no shine after drying. This type of paint would look nice in bedrooms and living spaces. Matte paint can also prove difficult to clean. Depending on the paint brand you select, paint may actually come off the wall when trying to clean walls.

When you work with a team of professional painters, we can recommend the best type of paint for your interior spaces. We also know which brands to recommend for different spaces to make your new paint color last longer.

Satin Paint

Satin finish paints have a more glossy appearance than both matte and flat paints. Unlike the other two, satin paint is very easy to clean. This makes it a great finish for any interior room inside of your Indianapolis home. The only downside is that this type of paint will not hide imperfections as easily as the others.
