Bringing New Life to a Popular Georgia Shopping Mall
In October 2024, CertaPro Painters® of Indianapolis completed an interior renovation project at a high-traffic shopping mall in Buford, Georgia that offers more than 220 stores/services – the largest shopping mall in the state of Georgia. The project centered on comprehensive interior revitalizations, specifically focusing on wallpaper removal and installation, drywall refinishing and repair, and “de-theming” spaces through signage removal and painting, as well as the installation of new, brighter acrylic panels for interior light fixtures.
Originally opened in the late 1999, the mall’s interior had remained unchanged for over two decades, retaining its original paint scheme. To revitalize the space, an architect and design team developed an updated color palette, which was finalized following on-site mock-ups and stakeholder approval.
The newly selected colors transformed the interior environment, introducing a more modern aesthetic while significantly brightening the mall’s common areas. The refreshed scheme enhanced the overall customer experience, creating a more inviting and contemporary atmosphere for both shoppers and tenants.
In addition to full interior painting, the project also included the removal and installation of new, brighter acrylic panels within existing light fixtures—enhancing overall illumination and complementing the updated color scheme.
ABOUT THE PROJECT:
The project included painting of interior common area walls, ceilings, railings, service doors, and facia around elevator/clock tower. It also included removal/demo of “old” common area signage, wall paper removal/drywall refinishing, and installation of new acrylic panels in interior mall lighting fixtures.
CHALLENGES & SOLUTIONS:
To successfully deliver the project while minimizing disruption, the work was carefully structured and phased across five distinct areas spanning both the first and second floors. Priority sequencing was critical, as certain sections required accelerated completion timelines to allow the mall to prepare and stage those areas for use.
Execution required the use of scissor lifts, boom lifts, and atrium man lifts in multiple locations. Navigating large equipment within an active shopping mall environment demanded a high level of precision, planning, and adherence to strict safety protocols.
All work was performed during overnight hours to avoid impacting daily operations. Each evening, crews mobilized and set up equipment, including lifts, within the mall. Prior to reopening each morning, all equipment was removed and work areas were thoroughly cleaned and reset. This disciplined approach ensured uninterrupted access for tenants and a seamless experience for patrons throughout the duration of the project.
