Residential Case Study - CertaPro Painters of Huntsville
Upscale Subdivision Home
Residential Case Study – Upscale Subdivision Home In Decatur, AL
CertaPro Painters of Huntsville took on a project in an upscale subdivision where the house was in good standing condition, though the gutters, downspouts, soffits, fascia, and columns were dirty, despite the brick being in good shape. They began by pressure washing and cleaning the entire exterior to eliminate any mildew and dirt. Instead of painting, they used the age-old practice of lime-washing the brick, which allows the brick to “breathe,” avoiding moisture issues and ensuring the color and brick last longer. Following the customer’s desired inspiration, the team lime-washed the brick and slightly distressed it to create a more modern look than traditional red brick. Over time, the brick will patina into a more distressed appearance, a highly sought-after look by many homeowners. In a fairly uniform neighborhood, this home now stands out and shines among its neighbors. With this durable and stylish upgrade, the homeowner won’t need exterior work for a long time.
About the Project:
Project Involvement:
CertaPro Painters of Huntsville took on a project in an upscale subdivision where the house was in good standing condition, though the gutters, downspouts, soffits, fascia, and columns were dirty, despite the brick being in good shape. They began by pressure washing the entire exterior and removing an old canopy on the back of the home to reach all the brick. The team meticulously taped everything off to ensure no areas were painted that didn’t need to be. Instead of painting, they used the age-old practice of lime-washing the brick, allowing it to “breathe,” avoiding moisture issues, and ensuring the color and brick last longer. As part of the process, they lime-washed all retaining walls around the home and washed off a few areas for a distressed look. Additionally, they painted the front door, mailbox, all gutters, downspouts, and shutters. Following the customer’s desired inspiration, the team achieved a more modern look than traditional red brick. Over time, the brick will patina into a more distressed appearance, a highly sought-after look by many homeowners. In a fairly uniform neighborhood, this home now stands out and shines among its neighbors. With this durable and stylish upgrade, the homeowner won’t need exterior work for a long time.
Special Challenges:
The lime-washing process is distinctive and different from painting. It involves wetting the brick before application and then scrubbing off areas as desired. This process needs to be done gradually, allowing the lime wash to fully soak into the brick.
