Residential Charm: Cedar Siding & Porch Renewal

In October 2025, CertaPro Painters® of Hoboken completed a six-day exterior project for a home in Weehawken, New Jersey. This property, admired for its ornate details and cedar siding, had suffered extensive paint failure and weather-related deterioration over the years. The siding was heavily peeling, and the porch and deck areas had visible damage that affected both curb appeal and usability.

Our team carefully revitalized the home through a detailed process of power washing, scraping, priming, and painting the cedar siding, followed by repairs and repainting on the porch and deck. The result was a renewed, welcoming exterior that showcases the home’s character and made the outdoor spaces inviting once again.

SCOPE OF THE PROJECT:

This comprehensive project included several stages of preparation and finishing across the siding, porch, and deck areas. The cedar siding required extensive work — including power washing, thorough scraping to remove failing paint, application of an oil-based primer, and two coats of premium paint to ensure durability and a uniform finish.

The porch was repaired and refinished with careful craftsmanship. Using Bondo fillers, the crew rebuilt deteriorated sections of the pillars, performed carpentry repairs on the lower elements, power washed the ceiling, and repainted all surfaces. Even the wrought iron railings were scraped and repainted to restore their decorative appeal.

For the back deck, the team power washed away algae buildup and applied a rich Lodge Brown stain, giving the area a warm and inviting appearance. The painting crew went above and beyond by putting a fresh coat of paint on the side gate — a task not originally included in the project scope — ensuring every visible detail met the homeowner’s expectations.

CHALLENGES & SOLUTIONS:

This project required careful access planning and creating ladder placement to reach the upper dormers and steeply pitched roof areas. With limited surface access and power lines nearby, the team used a combination of ladders and rooftop positioning to safely navigate the home’s stepped structure.

Additionally, much of the cedar siding had to be scraped down to bare wood, a time-consuming process requiring precision and patience. The crew’s attention to detail ensured that every surface, no matter how intricate or weathered, received the preparation it needed for a flawless final finish.

Despite the home’s complex design and the challenges of limited accessibility, the project was completed safely, on time, and with exceptional results.
