Courthouse Exterior Painting Project

In October 2025, CertaPro Painters® of Harrisburg, PA completed an exterior painting project for a courthouse in Carlisle, PA. Before work began, the building’s wood surfaces were heavily weathered, with peeling and faded paint and several areas deteriorated down to bare wood.

The project included light carpentry to replace rotted wood, along with thorough surface preparation such as caulking, wood putty application, and sanding. Due to the height and complexity of the structure, specialized equipment was required, including a 135-foot man lift to access the steeple and a 65-foot man lift for soffits, fascia, and shutters. Shutters were removed and sanded separately to ensure a smooth, durable finish.

One of the main challenges of the project was safely accessing the steeple, the highest point of the building, which required the use of the 135-foot man lift and specialized training and certification for several members of the paint team. Because the courthouse is located in the center of a busy downtown area, the crew coordinated traffic control during equipment delivery to safely reroute vehicles while the lift was unloaded and staged. To protect the surrounding brick patio pavers, approximately 20 supportive 4′ x 8′ dura-deck panels were used to distribute the weight of the 30,000-pound lift. Working at heights of up to 135 feet also required careful scheduling, with early starts and planned pauses when wind conditions increased.

The project was completed in approximately 17 business days.

The refreshed exterior restored the courthouse’s appearance, improving durability and curb appeal while preserving its presence in the heart of downtown Carlisle. View the before-and-after photos below to see the transformation!
