Celebrating America’s 250th in the Heart of Revolutionary History

For homeowners in the Great Valley area, America’s 250th anniversary feels especially meaningful. Just minutes away, Valley Forge, PA stands as one of the most important landmarks in American history. During the winter of 1777–1778, General George Washington and the Continental Army made their famous encampment at Valley Forge, where the army trained, reorganized, and emerged as a stronger, more unified fighting force.

Here are a few fun local facts that make this celebration even more special:

  • Valley Forge was like a small city. More than 12,000 soldiers, along with hundreds of women and children, arrived at the encampment in December 1777. The camp eventually included around 1,500 log huts and miles of fortifications.
  • It helped shape the modern U.S. Army. Baron von Steuben trained the troops at Valley Forge, helping turn the Continental Army into a more disciplined and organized force. The National Park Service notes that reforms in training, hygiene, supply systems, and military organization helped lay the foundation for the modern United States Army.
  • There was no battle at Valley Forge. While Valley Forge is one of the most famous places from the Revolutionary War, its importance comes from the perseverance, training, and transformation that happened there rather than from a battlefield victory.
  • The French alliance was celebrated there. In May 1778, word reached Washington’s army that France had formally allied with the United States, a major turning point in the fight for independence.

As the nation celebrates 250 years, CertaPro Painters® of Great Valley is proud to serve communities surrounded by such rich American history. Whether your home is near Valley Forge, Paoli, Wayne, or another nearby community, this summer is a great time to refresh your space and celebrate with a new look.
