THE CLIENT & THEIR STORY:

Our client was not pleased with the color on their newly constructed conveyor decking system and needed a local company to repaint.  They reached out to us since they previously had a positive experience with another CertaPro Painters in a different part of the country.  We only had 10 days to create a a plan and execute before the warehouse opening in Easton.

CHALLENGES:

In addition to painting the diamond plated conveyor decking and landings, we also had to finish the safety yellow striping, and paint underneath the conveyor decking while working around other trades.

Besides the tight timeline, we had to navigate through high and tight spaces while using a 2-part epoxy system that had to be carefully applied to the correct thickness so not to lose the texture of the diamond plated decking floor while carefully following the manufacturer specifications.

CERTAPRO PAINTERS® SOLUTION:

Due to time constraints, we had to go in with a solid plan for an assembly line execution and yet be flexible to any opportunities to improve the process, while following strict safety guidelines to keep everyone safe.

We worked in several teams to tackle separate sections and used two electric scissor lifts to improve efficiency. We carefully prepared all the surfaces by cleaning with denatured alcohol and protecting all items not getting painted.

Using a 2 part epoxy paint system presents its own set of challenges with a short pot life and strict application process. We carefully followed all the manufacturer and client specifications while constantly improving our production process to deliver better results.

Even with the best plan, there are always a few surprises. Early on, we realized that the paint was not adhering to the underside of the decking and we quickly had to test out a few alternative products and find the best paint solution. Constant communication was the key to this project in developing a strong working partnership between the Client, Paint Sales Representative, and our team.

We used the following Benjamin Moore products:

  • Corotech Surface Tolerant Epoxy Mastic Coating (Part A & B)
  • Corotech Command Waterborne Acrylic Urethane for the safety yellow lines.

RESULTS:

Our crew completed this project in 8 days. The customer was amazed with the outcome and our attention to detail, and are already thinking about projects for our team to do in the future!
