Home Gym Residential Painting Project Completed by CertaPro Painters® of Grand Haven
Our residential painting team completed this residential painting project in December 2020. The project was completed on a home located in Grand Haven, MI and took our team 2 weeks to complete.
OVERVIEW:
This project converted a basement bedroom into a home gym. The carpet was replace by a metallic epoxy coating, drywall texted on the ceiling was sanded down for a more uniform appearance, significant drywall work was completed to patch in new cable and electric outlets to the tv mount and prepare the walls for paint. Quarter round trim was installed and caulked in place at the baseboard trim. The doors were sprayed onsite for a fine finish and the walls were painted to match the colors in the floor.
CHALLENGES:
Floor preparation and spraying onsite can generate a lot of dust. This room was masked off in plastic to contain the dust. The window was opened and an air filter/fan was installed to route dust and exhaust through the filter. This set up prevented dust from reaching other areas of the home. This one of a kind floor has a clear primer coat to seal the concrete and a black base coat. The top coat included 2 metallic pigments for color. Two applications of a urethane top coat covered the epoxy.
SPECIAL EQUIPMENT/TECHNIQUES:
Heavy machinal grinders were used to profile the surface. Cracks were ground out with a hand grinder and filled with epoxy. The ceiling was sanded using a Festool ceiling sander connected to a HEPA vacuum unit. Doors were sprayed using a GRACO 9500 High Volume Low Pressure paint sprayer.
Before Photos
The room had old carpet, the ceiling texture was in need of repair, there was a lot of drywall damage (dings, cracks, scraps.
Photos taken during the project…
This unique floor was achieved by mixing 2 different metallic colors that create the dramatic waves when cured. A clear urethane top coat provides durability and fade protection. The tv mount was finished to prevent any wires from being seen when the TV is used. This ceiling has a uniform and unique layered look that appears more modern that a typical “crows foot” texture.
