Pole Barn Painting in Grand Haven

Posted on July 5, 2021

Our team here at, CertaPro Painters® of Grand Haven has plenty of experience painting Pole Barns. Pole Barn painting can be tricky if you do not hire the right person for the job. In this post we will break down all of the steps that are necessary to ensure your pole barn painting is done correctly. Most pole barns have metal walls, roof and trim. These type of barns need to be either power-coated or have a baked paint finish in order to last the outdoor exposure.

Power Washing – When painting Pole Barns, it is crucial that our first step is to power wash the building. This is due to chalking, which is the break down of the previous paint coat. It turns into a powdery substance that needs to be removed before a new coat of paint can be applied. If this residue is left behind it will lead to improper paint adherence.

Priming exposed or rusty metal- If the pole barn is made of metal, it is important that primers specifically created for metal are used om the building before the painting begins.

Using proper paint- This one may seem obvious, however often times people do not change the type of paint they are using based off of the surface they are painting. If the Pole Barn is in good shape a premium exterior paint should suffice. However, depending on the specific circumstances of the project, it may be better to use paint that is specific`ally made for metal. In some cases it may be necessary to spray paint. Each project is unique and we would first asses the current state of your pole barn and adjust accordingly.
