How to Spruce Up Your Home Office
Posted on August 1, 2021
With so many companies and workers switching to remote work over the last year, the home office has become one of the most important rooms of the house. Often this room was a neglected space used only on occasion. However, now that you are working from home, it might be time to make your office more work friendly. In this post, we are going to explain how to spruce up your office, add in a bit of interior painting, and utilize the space for calm, efficient productivity.
Light
One of the most important aspects to any room is the lighting. As one of the easiest things to change, we have started with this one on our list. If possible, your home office should include some natural lighting. This creates a positive work environment and it’s been studied that people are more productive when exposed to natural lighting. Open the drapes, shutters or blinds on your windows and let the light in!
If you prefer desk or floor lamps make sure that the lighting tones create a harmonious ambiance in the room. You can do this by picking out similar shades of light bulbs. For energy efficiency, try LED lighting or smart bulbs that can be adjusted via an app on your phone.
Paint
The next element that plays a crucial role in the home office is the color scheme. The walls need to be bright and inviting. If your home office is currently a dark room, you can easily change the paint on the walls to a lighter color. The team at Certa Pro Germantown can do everything from color consultations, wall paper removal, drywall repair or a complete interior painting project. You can get creative with color and add an accent color to one of the walls. Also, if you spend time remotely communicating via video stream, it might be nice to have one wall a crisp natural tone as a back drop.
Furniture
Gone are the big bulky office furniture pieces. In the modern home office, it’s advantageous to find furnishings that fit your working style. If you don’t like sitting for long hours, try a standing desk. Also, try to arrange furniture so that there are different places and space to work. Maybe use a pouf or a small couch/chair to bring your laptop and work.
Organization
Maximize your space (especially if it’s not large) with home organization. People are more productive and focused when they aren’t around clutter. Hire and professional or DIY, but organization is a must. You can do this by finding shelving or using the closet to store items not in use. Bookshelves and tables with storage are also great ways to keep the clutter out of sight.
Décor
Lastly, make sure that your décor reflects who you are and your work goals. You’ll want to pick out artwork or prints that manifests your work vibes. If you can, find pops of color to brighten a neutral office. Also, using natural wood tones mixed with grey, white, or black gives your eyes a break when not looking at a screen.
Even though the work atmosphere has changed over the past year, doesn’t mean that you need to be stuck working in a home office you don’t like. One of the quickest and easiest alterations to make is changing the paint color.
