How To Prepare Your Home for Painting
Posted on August 2, 2021
/Whether you are hiring professional painters or tackling a DIY Painting Project there are important things you should know before you get started. Our team here at CertaPro Painters® of Gainesville, has learned a few tips and tricks when it comes to house painting preparation. We are going to share a few of the most important!
Clear the room or Cover Large Items- If you are hiring professional painters they will usually do this step for you but in some cases you may need to do it yourself. You can also look at this as an opportunity to organize. Maybe there are some things you have been wanting to get rid of or re-purpose. This is a great time to do that. If you have large pieces in the room that is being painted, i.e. couches, you can leave them in the room but just be sure to cover them with a sheet.
Clean- This can be a great time to deep clean and really make the room feel brand new. However, if you don’t have the time to clean that deeply, you should at least wipe down the walls. Walls are covered in dust and oil, even if you can’t see it. This will help the paint adhere and just look better overall.
Sample the Paint Color- Often times people don’t realize what the color paint they picked out is going to look like once it is on the walls in their home. Seeing a sample in the store is different than seeing it in your home. The color can look different depending on how much sunlight that room gets, how tall the walls are, etc. You may also think the color is fine on the sample card but find it too overwhelming once it is on all of the walls. Our best solution to this is to paint a large portion of one wall and let it dry completely so you get an accurate representation of the color it will be.
