Top 3 Interior Painting Tips
Posted on May 28, 2021
It can be intimidating to take on an interior painting project. The myriad of brushes, rollers, and paint types can be overwhelming to even the best DIY-ers. Our professionals have compiled a list of our top four interior painting tips. Following these tips will make the painting process easier and the final product better. Our professionals have painted thousands of home interiors across the United States and perfected the art of interior painting. Here is what we have to share with you!
Clean and Prep the Area
There is nothing that is more important than thoroughly preparing both the room and yourself for the interior paint job. For the best finish possible, it is recommended that you remove doors and use drop cloths to cover any surface you don’t want paint on (floors, furniture, etc.). The area that is going to be painted should be cleaned with the proper equipment as well. A dirty wall will make it difficult for the new paint to adhere to. The cleaner the surface, the better the result. Typically, a wet rag with a small bit of soap should get the job done. If you notice any peeling, cracking, or flaking on your surface, you’ll want to stop and find the route of the problem. More often than not, new coats of paint don’t last as long because there is damage underneath. Once all of this is taken care of, you’re good to continue on to the next step!
Use the Right Materials
The next most important interior painting tip we can offer is to use the right materials. High quality brushes and rollers are going to give you a better finish and help your paint job last for a longer period of time. If you’re trying to save some money by doing DIY, don’t skimp out on the brushes. You’ll be spending more money and more time fixing the poor paint job than you’ve ever imagined. High quality paint is also important; however, you don’t just want to grab the most expensive paint on the shelf. Consult a professional about your goals for the project so they can point you in the right direction. And don’t forget the primer!
Paint in Sections
Our last tip is to take on your painting project in sections. You’ll want to start with the trim so that any accidents made on this step can be covered up. Then start at the top of your wall and roll downward. Use M or W shaped movements to cover the wall. Before starting on the second coat, make sure you let the area dry completely.
You’ll also want to paint on a day that the weather is good. Low humidity and clear skies typically makes for the perfect paint day. If you can shoot for around 70 degrees you’re in even better shape!
