The Cost To Paint Your Kitchen
Posted on December 16, 2020
At CertaPro Painters of Lewisville – Flower Mound, TX we understand that staying on budget is an important factor when it comes to planning your next project. When trying to determine the cost of painting your kitchen there are several factors that come in to play, including:
- Size of the room
- Scope of the project. For Example:
- Does the kitchen, or the breakfast nook have wallpaper on the walls?
- Are the cabinets going to be included? How about the inside of the cabinets?
- How soon will you need to get back to using your cabinets?
- Will the painting be part of a larger kitchen remodel?
Although we can’t provide an exact cost until we complete your free estimate (which we are now offering through remote video conference as well as in-person), we can give you some insight on what’s involved in a kitchen painting project so that you can get an idea of what’s required. To get you started, we invite you to spend some time with our Online Estimator tool.
Size of the room
Most of our customers include an attached “breakfast nook” when talking to us about their kitchen area. Combining the kitchen with the breakfast nook can create a rather large room. Customers often acknowledge the size of the room, and then follow up with something along the lines of “but there’s not much wall space to paint.” While this is true, the combination of a big room and not much wall space actually increases the time it takes our crew to paint the area. Think about all of those cabinets, counters, windows, and appliances that we have to cover with paper, plastic, and tape to ensure that no stray paint gets where it’s not supposed to, and you’ll be able to see how the hours add up. Keep in mind that in painting, the bulk of the cost is in the labor, not the paint.
Scope of the project
In the areas we serve in North Texas, many of our homes have wallpaper in the kitchen area. In fact, removing that wallpaper is one of the most popular projects we complete for our customers. Unfortunately, when the builders put up that wallpaper, most did not properly prepare the walls so that the paper could be removed easily. In most cases, regardless of how much steam, wallpaper remover, or other “tricks” we use, it’s elbow grease that ultimately gets the paper off, and like masking off the cabinets, etc., those hours spent peeling paper off inch-by-inch add up.
Speaking of cabinets, painting stained cabinets is another of our most popular services. Of all the projects we do, cabinet painting requires, by far, the strictest attention to detail to ensure that the final product looks as amazing as you envisioned. That added attention to detail requires that only our most highly skilled craftsman tackle cabinet projects, and that they take their time to get it right. Other things to consider when thinking about a cabinet painting project (and how much that project will cost), include whether or not the inside of the cabinets should also be painted (you might be surprised to learn that painting the inside doesn’t add much to the price of the project because the additional paint and labor needed is partially offset by the need for less masking before we get started). Not all cabinet paints are created (or priced) equally, and depending on how quickly you need to put your cabinets back in full service, we can vary the products we use.
Is there a larger remodel project going on?
We find that once our customers get started thinking about “freshening up” the kitchen, it quickly becomes like pulling a loose thread on a sweater: once you start pulling, there’s no stopping until everything is done. In our service area, that often means that our customers are hiring electricians to remove dated light fixtures and install modern light sources. As you can imagine, moving light fixtures usually means holes in the ceiling that we have to repair before we can paint. If you happen to have an open-concept home like many of our customers, there’s probably no break point between your kitchen ceiling and the rest of the house, so if we’re touching the kitchen ceiling, we probably going to need to paint all of the ceilings in the open area to ensure that it all matches.
These are just a few examples of the topics we’ll go over with you when we provide your free proposal. As you can see, there’s no easy answer to “how much will it cost to paint my kitchen.” That being said, while we can’t give you a price without viewing your kitchen, we can assure you that you will receive an outstanding value when you select CertaPro Painters® of Lewisville – Flower Mound for your kitchen painting project.
One last factor to keep in mind while you’re planning your project: most of our kitchen painting projects take between two and five days to complete, with the size of the room and the scope of the project being the determining factors.
