The owner of Brixton Parlour, a high-end hair salon on Yonge Street in Toronto, recently enlisted the Commercial Painting support of CertaPro Painters of Etobicoke to help rejuvenate her business’s storefront image. In addition to addressing some areas of light surface damage, the owner wanted to move in a fresher and more visually impactful colour direction – from its current dark gray to a bright white – which would also help better accentuate the salon’s distinctive brick-like façade.
As a first step, surfaces were thoroughly washed to remove contaminants and promote coating adhesion. Areas of peeling paint were then lightly sanded to produce a more consistent base surface for the coatings.

Areas of peeling paint were then lightly sanded to produce a more consistent base surface for the coatings.A coat of exterior latex primer was then applied to seal in small areas of bare substrate, help facilitate the colour change from very dark to very light, and to provide a more uniform surface for the finish coats. Sherwin-Williams Duration exterior latex paint was specified for its superior durability and protection from cracking, peeling and blistering.
The results are dramatic and very pleasing to the owner. The new look has improved street visibility, brightened the entranceway, and created a seamless transition between the salon’s clean and modern interior design and its polished exterior image, so crucial in this upscale mid-town neighborhood.
