A Commercial Floor Coating Project
for Humberview Volkswagen

When Humberview Volkswagen in Etobicoke engaged CertaPro Painters in August 2023 to paint all the walls and install a new resin flooring system in their 12,000ft² service department they chose a commercial painting partner that they knew could deliver.
The primary goal was to create a refreshed and consistent appearance across all three interconnected shop areas, while being mindful of budget. The entire project was to be planned and completed in just six weeks, prior to tire change season starting in mid-October – no disruption to service operations would be permissible throughout the course of the project.
Before the commercial painting project began…
The wall paint was peeling in various areas, and in need of updating according to Volkswagen corporate branding requirements. The existing floors were 7-8 years old and a mix of different systems – some insufficient for purpose and overly worn, and other areas over-specified for their needs and pockmarked with holes where the coating had failed.
CertaPro Painters proposed a multi-coat Resuflor system from Sherwin-Williams to aesthetically harmonize the overall space, stand up to vehicle traffic and equipment, oil/grease, and cleaning agents, and critically, allow for phased completion over a series of weekends to ensure on-time return to service each Monday morning.
The CertaPro Painters team worked closely with the dealership’s operational staff to plan every detail of the project, which was to be completed over a total of four weekends of coordinated work between the painting and floor installation crews.
During the Project…
The wall painting process consisted of surface degreasing through power washing, protection of surrounding surfaces, and application of multi-surface acrylic paint colour-selected in accordance with Volkswagen’s corporate guidelines.
The flooring installation process was more involved, consisting of multiple steps to ensure maximum performance and service life. Surface preparation was completed with the use of mechanical diamond grinders, followed by cleaning and patchwork repairs. A primer coat of 100% solids epoxy was then applied, followed by a body coat of same, broadcast of anti-slip material back-rolled for encapsulation, and finally application of a satin urethane topcoat.
Once the floor was finished.
The result is a transformation of the service department, completed on schedule with no disruption to operations. The client was well pleased with the results and CertaPro Painters looks forward to working with The Humberview Group on their next project.
