How To Prep your House for Painting
Posted on January 20, 2022
Our team at CertaPro Painters® of El Paso frequently encounter homeowners who aren’t sure how to prep their home for paint. We put together a few things you can do before the painters arrive to help ensure the interior painting process goes as smoothly as possible.
- Move as many things out of the room as you can. It is hard to paint in a room that is cluttered. The cleaner and less cluttered the space is the better. If there are items you can’t move such as beds, couches, etc. Cover them with sheets so no paint splashes onto them.
- Clean! Take this time as an opportunity to deep clean the space. You can also clean the walls to remove any dust or oils that have built up.
- Choose a paint finish. The finish of the paint can be just as important as what color you choose. High gloss paints are durable and easy to clean but they will show any imperfections that your walls may have. On the other hand, an eggshell finish is the best way to make everything on the walls blend.
- Sample the paint. If you pick a paint color but aren’t entirely confident about how it will look in the space you can try it out. Paint one wall that color to ensure that you like it once you see it on the entire wall. Make sure you wait for it to dry completely so you can see the true color.
