How We Paint & Refinish Kitchen Cabinets in Your Snellville Home

Posted on November 7, 2023

If you’re unhappy with how your kitchen cabinetry looks, there are many options when it comes to updating their look. The first thought that comes to some people’s minds is to get their kitchen totally redone, but this can be an expensive and time-consuming undertaking. At CertaPro Painters® of East Metro Atlanta, we suggest either repainting or refinishing your cabinets. Not only does this mean you can use your kitchen sooner than a total kitchen installment, but you’ll save a lot of money while still changing up your kitchen’s look.

Typically, we suggest working with your cabinets in your garage to give them a great refinish, but we can also paint them in place or even take them off-site for a more controlled refinish. Here is how we tend to take care of painting your cabinets:

  1. Remove the doors and hardware from your cabinets. This also gives you an opportunity to select new hardware for your cabinets if you wish.
  2. Sand and prep surfaces. We either sand by hand or with a tool so that the surfaces are ready for a new paint or stain.
  3. Apply paint/stain to the doors and other removed parts. This is where the timeline may lengthen or shorten. Paint, as opposed to stains, may require some layers of primer to make sure your final paint coat lasts for years to come.
  4. Paint/stain the wall-mounted parts of the cabinets. We use brushes and rollers to work our way around the mounted portions of the cabinet.
  5. Reassemble the cabinets. After the paint or stain has had time to dry or cure, the cabinets are reassembled, including any old or new hardware, for a refreshed final look.
