The Benefits of Garage Floor Coatings

Increased Durability and Longevity

A professionally-applied coating makes your garage floor significantly more resistant to everyday wear-and-tear that could otherwise damage a bare concrete floor, leading to costly repairs.

Better Aesthetics

Let’s be honest – a solidly-colored concrete floor simply isn’t all that exciting, even in a mostly utilitarian space like a garage. With plenty of finish to choose from, floor coatings add some much-needed color to an otherwise drab space.

Easier Maintenance

Unlike bare concrete floors that can absorb oil, dirt and chemicals and become permanently stained, many messes can simply be wiped or washed off of coated floors.

Improved Safety

In many cases, floor coatings can provide greater protection from slipping than bare concrete floors thanks to their more tactile (and easier to clean) surface. Depending on the color and finish, some coatings can also improve visibility at night by offering a more reflective surface.

Polyaspartic Floor Coatings

CertaPro Painters® of Des Moines uses Polyaspartic materials for garage floor coating, which have a number of key advantages over more traditional epoxy and polyurea finishes:

Much stronger than epoxy

A typical garage floor will endure a lot throughout its life; foot and vehicle traffic, chemical spills, heavy equipment and countless small impacts from tools and other debris that can cause wear and tear over time. Polyaspartic floor coatings are designed to handle all of this stress more effectively than typical epoxy coatings, and our 20-year warranty on our garage floor coatings speaks to our confidence on that.

Only takes an hour to fully set

Depending on the exact size of your space and the environmental factors at play, typical epoxy coatings can take up to a day to fully harden and dry. Polyaspartic coatings take only an hour, allowing us more time to focus on the rest of the project and enabling your job to be completed in 24-48 hours – guaranteed!

Completely odorless

Epoxy compounds give off an odor that can hang around for days or even weeks after application, whereas Polyaspartic coatings are entirely odorless.

Goes much longer without fading or yellowing

Exposure to sunlight and natural wear-and-tear can cause many floor coatings, including epoxy, to lose their natural shine or even turn slightly yellow over time. This process takes much longer with Polyaspartic coatings, and with the right care, it will be many years before you will begin to notice fading or yellowing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the floor be slippery?

Though their finish is smooth, Polyaspartic coatings are no more slippery than any other variety of floor coating so long as you keep them clean and take care not to directly damage the finish. If the risk of slipping is a significant concern for you, traction additives are available, which your sales rep will be happy to discuss with you.

How long does the coating last?

Most Polyaspartic floor coatings will last between 10 and 20 years, though the longevity will ultimately depend on the conditions that it’s subjected to and how the coating is applied in the first place. You can rest assured that our expert team will get the initial coating done right, but we also encourage you to have a discussion with your sales rep about the kind of wear-and-tear that the floor will be subjected to and how to subsequently make a plan to prolong its life. In any case, we confidently back each of our Polyaspartic garage floor coatings with a 20-year warranty.
