First United Methodist Church Commercial Painting Project

First United Methodist Church in Newton, Iowa reached out to us in the fall of 2019 looking for assistance on renovating their church. The building had last been updated in 1990, 30 years prior, and a lot of work was needed. The church, built in 1914, has beautiful architecture, including 42 foot tall beautiful arched ceilings, a large and very detailed dome that takes up a large portion of the ceiling, and detailed molding throughout. In order to access the tall walls, ceilings and dome safely we had 20 ft platform scaffolding put up with a two rolling towers on top to reach the peak of the dome.

The project involved first scrapping all the walls, ceiling and dome as there was a lot of peeling paint and plaster, and then completely skim coating all the areas to leave a very smooth finish. Once all the repair work was finished it was time to paint the walls, arched ceilings, dome, and trim. We used Sherwin Williams Pro-Mar 200 paint and stuck to the previous color scheme which included an assortment of pastel colors. The final product came out great and the church now has a like new feel with smooth walls but also reserves the beautiful detailed architecture that was built over 100 years ago. See below for a few pictures highlighting the project.
