Commercial & Residential Applications

Residential floor coatings have become increasingly popular in recent years, as homeowners are looking for durable, low-maintenance solutions that can improve the look and feel of their homes. Floor coatings are an excellent option for any room in the house, from garages and basements to living rooms, kitchens, and bathrooms. They can be applied to a variety of surfaces, including concrete, wood, and tile, and come in a range of colors, textures, and finishes to suit any design style. Residential floor coatings offer many benefits, such as increased durability, resistance to stains and spills, and ease of maintenance. They can also help to reduce dust and allergens, as well as improve the overall value of a home. Whether you’re looking to update your garage or transform your living space, a floor coating is a versatile and cost-effective solution for any residential application.

Commercial floor coatings are specialized protective layers applied to various types of flooring surfaces in commercial and industrial settings. These coatings are designed to enhance the durability, longevity, and performance of the floors while providing a safe and aesthetically pleasing environment for employees, customers, or visitors. Depending on the specific needs of the space, commercial floor coatings can be made from different materials such as epoxy, polyurethane, polyaspartic, or polyurea, each offering unique characteristics and advantages. These coatings can be customized to provide slip resistance, chemical resistance, UV resistance, and even decorative elements to match the branding or design preferences of the business.

The Layers of Epoxy Floors

Floor coatings consist of 3 layers of coatings, starting with a concrete base (pictured as the gray slab in the diagram).

After floor prep, which include using a grinder on the floor and cleaning of the surface, a tinted base coat is applied on top of the concrete. Before the base coat dries, a layer of decorative chips are evenly spread across the surface and left to set for a few hours. Once dry, any excess chips are scraped off the surface and cleaned.

The last layer is a clear top coat that is applied on top of the chip layer. The top coat gives added protection, seals chips in place, and gives a high gloss shine to the floor.

Advantages of Epoxy Flooring Solutions

Epoxy flooring has become an increasingly popular choice for both residential and commercial properties, offering a range of compelling benefits. This innovative flooring solution stands out for its exceptional durability, capable of withstanding heavy foot traffic, impacts, and various forms of wear. Its resistance to scratches, stains, chemicals, and moisture makes it an ideal option for high-use areas like garages, warehouses, and industrial facilities.

One of the most appealing aspects of epoxy floors is their low maintenance requirements. A simple sweep or mop is usually sufficient to keep these surfaces looking pristine, saving time and effort in the long run. This ease of care contributes to the cost-effectiveness of epoxy flooring, as it requires minimal upkeep over its extended lifespan.

Aesthetically, epoxy floors offer versatility to suit any design vision. Available in a wide array of colors and finishes, they can be customized to complement existing decor or create a striking visual statement. From sleek and modern to bold and vibrant, the design possibilities are virtually endless.

The combination of durability, easy maintenance, design flexibility, and long-term cost savings makes epoxy flooring an attractive investment for property owners. Whether you’re looking to upgrade a home garage, revamp a retail space, or outfit an industrial facility, epoxy flooring provides a robust and visually appealing solution that can withstand the test of time.

Epoxy vs Polyurea Floors

Polyurea and epoxy are two popular types of floor coatings that offer different advantages and disadvantages depending on the specific application.

Polyurea is a fast-curing, high-performance coating that is known for its exceptional durability and resistance to abrasion, impact, and chemicals. It also has excellent flexibility and can withstand extreme temperature changes without cracking or peeling. Polyurea coatings are ideal for high-traffic areas, such as commercial and industrial facilities, but can also be used in residential applications. They are available in a wide range of colors and textures and can be applied to a variety of surfaces, including concrete, metal, and wood. One of the main advantages of polyurea coatings is their fast cure time, which allows for a quick installation process and minimal downtime.

Epoxy is another popular floor coating that is known for its durability and resistance to chemicals and abrasion. It is a two-part system that consists of a resin and hardener, which are mixed together before application. Epoxy coatings are available in a range of colors and finishes and can be customized with decorative elements such as flakes, metallics, or quartz. Epoxy coatings are ideal for residential applications, such as garages, basements, and kitchens, as they provide a seamless and easy-to-clean surface that is resistant to stains and spills. One of the main advantages of epoxy coatings is their affordability compared to other types of floor coatings.

Overall, both polyurea and epoxy coatings have their own unique advantages and disadvantages, and the best choice depends on the specific needs and requirements of the application. Polyurea is an excellent choice for high-traffic commercial and industrial environments, while epoxy is a cost-effective and durable option for residential applications.
