Restoring History, One Coat at a Time – Revitalizing Union Station’s Iconic Awnings
In May 2023, a restoration project took place at Denver’s historic Union Station, focusing on the exterior metal awnings. Over the course of two weeks, the team worked to revitalize the aged and deteriorating surfaces, ensuring a fresh and long-lasting finish. Check out this case study to learn more about this project that brought new life to a Denver landmark!
Scope of the Project:
The project required extensive preparation, including scraping off loose and peeling green paint, applying a metal-compatible primer, and finishing with a durable top coat.
Challenges and Solutions:
One of the key challenges was executing the work during regular business hours while ensuring pedestrian safety. To minimize disruptions, the team carefully taped off work areas and set up barriers to direct foot traffic away from painting zones. Additionally, the project required the use of a 20-foot scissor lift to access the awnings efficiently and complete the job with precision.
PROJECT TIMELINE
Duration: Two weeks
Progress Photos
The project was a success and was completed within the two-week timeframe. The newly refinished awnings not only enhanced the appearance of Union Station but also provided a more durable and protective coating, ensuring longevity for years to come.
