Why to Paint Inside in the Summer
Posted on June 13, 2019
We are moving into the dog days of summer, which tends to send painters outdoors. Take advantage of the warmer weather by painting the inside of your home too. Gentle breezes and open windows make the perfect combination to paint in. Here are the 4 reasons why to paint inside in the summer.
Warm
You can expect your projects to dry faster compliments of warmer weather outside. The prep and priming dry times can be cut in half if the weather is right. Drying times will follow suit. That means you could get a job done in half the time if you are up to hustling as well.
Air movement
Warm breezes from open windows are the perfect respite from the smelly fumes of paint. Fans and window breezes help the paint dry and move fumes through the work area and right out the window.
More light
Summer days are longer thanks to a later sunset. This means you’ll have more time to see what you are doing during daylight hours. Pro painters will tell you, painting in natural light offers the best chance to see your work. Shadows, holidays, and drips are much easier to see when the room is flooded with natural light. You will get a good look at the color faster, so missed spots can be corrected while you are working, rather than after you’ve put the paint away.
Thinner Paint![]()
The paint you are working with can tend to change viscosity with colder temperatures. As the paint gets thicker, you’ll end up with more drips and thicker wall paint. Avoid all of this by painting in summer, when the paint is much easier to work with. Warmth makes the paint thinner. It is easier to work with, easier to apply, and creates a nice thin layering ability.
