It’s easy to forget about the closet when you are painting your room. Sitting behind the doors, it’s easily lost when renovation time comes. Professional stylists suggest choosing a color and sheen for your closet will improve the look of the closet.
• Open Closets
If your closet doesn’t have doors and is open to the room, it’s a good idea to paint it a close shade to the room. Go a few shades lighter to create an integrated look that draws attention to what’s inside.
• Master Closet
As the closet where you keep your clothing, consider a bright white or light color. Adding a semi-gloss finish will help reflect light in it and help you see your clothing better.
• Pantry or Bathroom Closet
These closets tend to see more wear and tear. Sticky or oily items can tear up the paint in a rapid manner. Use a semi-gloss finish in these closets to give you the ability to scrub the paint on a fairly regular basis.
• Junk Closet
Don’t deny it, every home has a closet that acts as a catch-all for our stuff that doesn’t have a permanent home. As the home to sporting goods, winter clothing, cleaning supplies, or whatever else, you want to hide what’s inside. Use a darker color that helps to hide the mess in the closet.

Since guest room closets tend to be used less, it’s a good place to explore your creative side. Try a bright or contrasting color. It can be a pop of color in the same vein as an accent wall. Pros suggest dark colors are forgiving and will hide dust. So poor housekeepers can take refuge in a dark hue.
• Leftover Paint
Closets can be a fun place to use up leftover paint from past projects. Whether it’s a bright color from an exterior project or a light color from touching up the baseboards, use up colors you have in your possession and get a new closet in the process.
