TJX Chiller Units
Featured Commercial Project
Step by Step
In late 2021, CertaPro Painters of Columbus, OH was asked by TJX to assist with repainting the metal interior surfaces on their two chiller units. Water flows inside these units constantly, so each chiller had extensive rusting. Additionally, only one unit could be down at a time.
With that in mind the plan was to complete the first chiller unit, allowing for 10 days between each Chiller for the paint to properly cure, then complete the second unit and allow it to cure.
Before
Preparation is Key
To prepare for the painting, dust containment measures were installed with plastic around each chiller. The rust on the metal surfaces needed to be grinded down to get rid of the extensive rusting. Once that was complete, we applied rust-converter to the metal surfaces to convert any remaining surface rust into a paintable surface.
During
On To the Next One
When the Metal Plates, Interiors of the Chiller Tubes, and Metal Brackets had all been properly painted and given 10 days to cure, it was time to start the same process on the second Chiller Unit. We used Sherwin-Williams ‘Macropoxy’ 646 – Gloss White epoxy, which required two coats. Since we had to wait for one unit to be completely finished before starting the other, the entire project took 24 days total.
