The Top Five Choices of Colors to Paint Your Bathroom

Posted on September 25, 2019

When it comes to decorating your home, the bathroom is an important room to consider.  Being smaller than other rooms, bathroom decor can be a way to express personal style and creativity without affecting the whole house.   Influencing how we feel, think, and act, color is an essential element of a room’s aesthetic. So, what are the best colors to paint your bathroom?

White– Perhaps the single most important thing for a bathroom to be is clean! A symbol of purity, white is always a solid choice for bathroom walls.  A white-walled bathroom doesn’t have to be boring, however.  Since white pairs well with any color, this choice allows you the freedom to add vibrant accents of your favorite hues. White walls provide a blank canvas for a brightly colored rug, patterned shower curtain,  or an eccentric piece of art.

Off-white — Sometimes, too much white can be seen as harsh and unwelcoming (think of how your eyes feel when struck by a bright blanket of fresh snow).  If crisp white seems to sterile and jarring to you, a softer off-white color may be a better pick.

Blue– Your bathroom is a place to cleanse away the stresses of the day.  The calming, cool color of blue, often associated with water, is a strong contender for choice of bathroom wall paint. As the color of the ocean and the sky, blue evokes feelings of being free, refreshed, and rejuvenated.  Blue is also a universally well-liked color, meaning your bathroom will be visually appealing to members of your household and guests alike.

Green– Like blue, green is a color found abundantly in nature.  The dominant color of plant life, green represents growth and positivity.  The optimistic vibe of green makes it another quality paint color choice.

Purple– Purple can have a powerful effect on the environment of your house.  Associated with royalty, purple can make people feel luxurious.  Using the right shade of purple paint on your bathroom walls can add elegance and class to your home.

Once you choose which color you want to use, it’s time to pick the shade! Because bathrooms often don’t have windows and the benefits of natural light, lighter tones may be a better choice to prevent a bathroom with a dingy, cave-like feel.  Look for pale or pastel colors rather than bold ones.

Also keep in mind that there is no rule that says you have to stick to a single shade!  Consider painting one wall a different color than the rest, adding accents of a different color (windowsills, baseboards, etc), or using painter’s tape to help create fun designs.

Once you have chosen your perfect can of paint, the fun has just begun!  Use your newly painted walls as inspiration to decorate the rest of the room. Add a vase of flowers, a fancy soap pump, and/or a stylish mirror to complete the look.  Enjoy your freshly decorated bathroom!
