Campus-Wide Traffic Marking and Line Striping in Charlotte

SCOPE OF THE WORK:

The project involved extensive preparation, layout verification, restriping, and pavement marking throughout multiple campus locations, including the football stadium area and surrounding parking facilities.

Preparation began with power washing and scraping to remove loose and failing paint from curbs, parking stalls, and existing traffic markings. Because many of the original markings had faded significantly and traffic patterns had changed over time, parking spaces were carefully remeasured and relaid out to ensure compliance with the university’s updated parking plan.

The team restriped existing parking areas, installed updated numbering systems, refreshed directional arrows, created new no-parking zones, repainted crosswalks, and covered or replaced obsolete markings where necessary. Throughout the project, careful attention was given to maintaining consistency across the large campus while ensuring all markings met the client’s specifications.

CHALLENGES & SOLUTIONS:

One of the largest challenges was completing the project while maintaining access throughout an active university campus. The team coordinated closely with university staff to align production schedules with Spring Break periods, holidays, and lower-traffic times to minimize disruption to campus operations.

Work was completed in phases to keep parking lots, roadways, and pedestrian routes accessible whenever possible. Additional challenges included vehicles parked in restricted work zones, overgrown landscaping that required clearing before striping could begin, and the logistics of managing large paint deliveries and waste disposal across a campus-wide project.

Daily progress reporting was required throughout the project to keep university stakeholders informed. Safety remained a top priority, with traffic cones, temporary barriers, and partial closures used to safely direct both vehicle and pedestrian traffic around active work areas.

SPECIAL EQIPMENT & TECHNIQUES:

The project utilized a wheel-guided line striping machine to ensure precise and consistent pavement markings across the campus. Gas-powered support equipment, including a power washer and water truck, was used during preparation and cleaning operations.

Multiple stencil sets were required to create parking space numbers, directional arrows, crosswalk markings, and specialty traffic indicators. A dedicated storage container was maintained onsite to securely house equipment, materials, and supplies throughout the three-week project.
