The task involved restoring and staining a log cabin nestled in a local mountain pass, a location known for its challenging weather conditions.

Project Overview
In July 2024, CertaPro Painters® of Central Washington completed a residential painting project in Naches (The Nile), Washington. The project involved restoring and staining a log cabin, which required a specialized approach to ensure a beautiful and long-lasting finish. The work was completed over four days with a team of two skilled painters.
Scope of Work
The project began with thorough stain removal and the application of a brightener to prepare the cabin’s wood surfaces. The team used PPG Log and Cabin stains for top coats and Woodluxe solid stain on the fascia, which are specifically designed for log cabins and wood exteriors. Given the unique characteristics of the substrate, careful attention was paid to the preparation process to remove any moss and ensure the wood’s moisture content was at an optimal level for staining.
Challenges and Special Techniques
This project presented several challenges, primarily due to the nature of the log cabin’s wood surfaces and the varying weather conditions up the local mountain pass where the property was located. Special cleaning techniques were required to properly prepare the cabin for staining, ensuring all moss was removed and the wood was adequately dried. The staining process itself demanded careful spraying to ensure even and thorough coverage, which is more challenging than typical residential painting jobs.
Results
Despite these challenges, the project was completed on schedule, showcasing the ability of the CertaPro Painters® team to adapt to different conditions and learn new skills and techniques.
