How To Prepare Your Home For Exterior Painting
Posted on February 28, 2022
Many homeowners that book an exterior painting job are eager to get the project completed as soon as possible. Therefore, we identify the top obstacles that our painters face while on the job and what you can do to prepare the area outside your home in advance.
Outdoor furniture – We may appreciate your outdoor patio or deck, but obstacles can make things more difficult for our painters to operate. Please do your best to move chairs, tables, grills, and other furniture so that our painters can access the exterior portions of the home much easier.
Vehicles – Similar to outdoor furniture, leaving your vehicles in the driveway can make finishing the project more difficult for our painters. Not only does moving your vehicles allow easy access for our painters to work, but your vehicles will also avoid any debris from power washing and painting.
Landscaping – Overgrown bushes and grass can make things more difficult for our painters which will increase project times. Consider trimming any bushes, trees or branches that would interfere with the immediate area being painted. We recommend that all foliage is cut back at least 3 feet from the house.
Access to water and power – Every exterior painting project is different, so we may ask that we have access to water and power sources for our certain equipment. Our estimators will be sure to explain these in more detail at the time of estimate.
*If your house has exposed wiring, you may need to call the power company and have the wires wrapped ahead of time. This refers to the wire that extends from the power pole to the house. It needs to be wrapped with rubber, so there is no chance of accidental electrocution. In many cases, however, our team will be able to complete jobs without such requests.
Pre-wash exterior – If you are particular about watering the exterior of your house, you may take a hose or power washer and wash all the siding and trim to remove dirt and pollen from the exterior walls of your house. If you’d like us to handle this, we do offer power washing services.
Outdoor pets – While our painters may admire your fluffy friends, not all of them may be friendly to our crew. We would hate to cause any issues for our painters or your pets. We recommend that you to keep any outdoor pets inside throughout the duration of the project to ensure that our crew and your pets are safe.
If you are considering getting your home’s exterior painted, February and March are the best times to schedule an estimate as our calendar fills up quickly. We look forward to working with you!
