Giving New Life to a Historic Landmark
This building is a historic landmark nestled in the heart of downtown Bloomington. With a unique blend of the old and the new, the establishment is a testament to the area’s rich history and vibrant community.
The recent acquisition of this architectural gem by the popular game store Red Raccoon Games was met with fervor and anticipation. To heighten brand recognition and establish some fresh curb appeal, the proprietor envisioned the building’s awning awash in the vibrant hue of the brand – red. The expertise of Sherwin Williams, a renowned name in paint and coatings, was called upon. The goal was to achieve an exact match with the store’s primary color, making sure to maintain the integrity of the structure while enhancing its appeal.
Navigating the busy downtown area was a challenging aspect of the project. Nonetheless, our team was able to seamlessly manage logistics and execute the work efficiently. The project was delivered on schedule, much to the delight of the client.
The customer’s satisfaction was palpable. The newly painted awning in vivid ‘Raccoon’ red was the talking point on several Facebook posts by the owner.
About the Project:
Condition of Facility:
While the building was in relatively good condition, given it’s age, the metal awning on the exterior was in need of a new coat of paint. The owners decided that, since new paint was necessary, they should switch up the color scheme to represent the new tenets of the building – Red Raccoon Games.
Project Involvement:
This project entailed a comprehensive process of refurbishing the metal awning of a vintage edifice recently taken over by new owners. The age-old building, adorned with a rich history, received a well-needed touch-up, amplifying its aesthetic appeal. The metal awning, a distinguishing feature of the building, was revitalized with a striking new shade of red paint.
Special Challenges:
The storeowners envisioned a particular shade of red for its premises, a hue so vibrant that it demanded our utmost attention and meticulous application. To achieve this exact color, it necessitated as many as four coats of paint to ensure we provided a thorough, even coverage on the substrate. Such a task required precision and dedication from our team. They meticulously hand-rolled and brushed the paint under the awning, ensuring every tiny surface area was adorned with the desired vibrant red. We also had to use scaffolding in order to reach every part of the awning.
