Our Guide to Choosing Bathroom Paint Colors

Posted on October 24, 2019

Bathrooms get very little love when it comes to decor. Painting alone can leave you with a wide range of decisions. There’s colors, finishes and palettes to consider. Flooring, fixtures and furnishings can have you tangled in a web of colors leaving you feeling lost and confused. Here is our guide to choosing bathroom paint colors.

Ash Grey

Bathrooms are perfectly suited for a light ash grey. The color is muted and neutral while being modern and chic. This color is perfectly paired with stylish marble countertops. Warm it up with brighter colored textiles to avoid a dark and gloomy room. Another option is pure white to lighten the room and give it a fresh feeling.

Powder Blue

As an accent or full color, powder blue allows you to make a statement with color in your bathroom. This is a traditional color in a modern hue. Slightly darker than sky blue, pair it with light and white woods and finishes to let the paint take center stage. Balance will be important, since the color can seem overwhelming paired with dark colors. Stay light with your countertop and you’re set up for a beautiful bath.

Goldenrod

Rich yellow is a great way to add light to a bathroom with little to no natural light. It’s a favorite for kitchens, but can successfully create a lovely bathroom with brass or bronze. The gold tones warm up a dark room. Pair it with white or light fixtures for a sunny room you’re happy to spend time in.

Teal

The newest choice in bathroom paint colors is deep, rich teal. For smaller baths, consider an accent or pattern in teal, while larger rooms can easily bare the color. Use contrasting colors in lighter options to tone down the bright color. White cabinetry and appliances is the perfect way to break up the vivid teal and give your eyes some respite.

Finish

As you approach your bathroom painting job, you’ll be looking at finishes in addition to colors. When dealing with a messy, wet room such as a bathroom, you’ll want to opt for a satin finish. This provides good protection against humidity of showers and shaves. It will allow you to clean the paint more vigorously without damaging it. If your room won’t work with the high luster of satin, semi-gloss will hold up to some scrubbing as well.
