How to Create the Perfect Living Space for Entertaining

Posted on November 1, 2021

Our team at CertaPro Painters® of Cedarhill-Seagoville always sees an increase in estimates around this time of year. Why? The holidays are quickly approaching! This is a great time to get the interior of your home looking it’s best. Even if you don’t host for the holidays, it is still the time of year you and your family will be spending more time inside and less time out and about. The good news is, you don’t have to paint in order to create the perfect living space for entertaining. Although, it is a good option if it’s been awhile since your home had a fresh coat of paint. Keep reading if you are interested in some of the ways you can create a great atmosphere for entertaining!

  1. Paint the Trim – If you your home isn’t quite ready for an entire interior paint job, consider just painting the trim. A very popular design trend right now is black trim with light colored walls. We also love white walls paired with tan trim. You can use the accent color on door trim, window trim, and the entire front door. It is great way to change up the entire appearance of your home without having to embark in a huge project.
  2. Consider Seating – If you do host any holiday gatherings at your home, it is important to have a space where no feels secluded from the conversation. A large sectional usually does the trick. However, don’t be afraid to purchase plastic chairs and let guests place them where they wish. It doesn’t matter if they don’t fit your homes aesthetic. They are only temporary and will help make everyone feel more comfortable.
  3. Create a “Gallery Wall.” – Pick out your favorite pictures with your friends and families and get them printed out. Put them in coordinating picture frames and let your memories be the art! Such a cozy, personal touch to any room. Guests will love being able to find themselves in the photos as well. It also acts a conversation starter to look back on fond memories.
  4. Connect the room to your geographic location- This is an especially good idea if your friends and family live in different states and coming to visit you feels like a bit of a getaway for them. You can incorporate elegant dainty statues of local wildlife, popular plants in your area, etc. The idea is creating the theme of the room based off of your geographic location.
  5. Find the right balance between formal and casual – You want the room to be comfortable while also still having touches of elegance. You don’t want to have everything look so perfect that people feel uncomfortable. Keep things casual but add in touches of elegance through décor such as candles, fresh flowers, wine glasses and table décor.
  6. Add antiques – You don’t have to searching for expensive antiques. But if you are out and about and have the extra money to splurge a little than consider investing in a nice antique piece. It can be the focal point of the room and also a conversation starter.
