Our team at CertaPro Painters® of Cedar Rapids knows are quickly walls can accumulate dirt and debris. Sometimes it can easily be wiped off but sometimes we encounter those stubborn stains. When we find stains on the walls in our homes it can be very frustrating. Especially if it is an older stain that was hidden and has had time to set in. Don’t worry though, there are ways to ensure your walls look as good as new. If the walls in your home are lacking lister but aren’t quite ready for a fresh coat of paint, you can try deep cleaning them. We have a couple of tips on how to remove stains from walls without damaging the paint. Keep reading if you want to find more!
- Start with the simple method. Water and soap can go a long way. Before trying the more heavy-duty methods try some warm water, a few drops of dish washing liquid and a microfiber cloth. Wring out the cloth then rub the stain until it is gone. Double check the wall after it is dry to make sure the stain is gone. This the simplest and safest method. If you can still faintly see it, repeat this process. This works especially well on grease stains.
- Use a cleaning eraser. You can find these at the grocery store, and they work best for stains that don’t come off with just water and sap. Test a small area of the wall first to make sure it’s not going to damage the finish on your walls.
- Use All-purpose Cleaner. Apply the cleaner to a rag and use the rag to rub the mark. If it is still not coming off, you can try applying the cleaner directly to the wall and scrubbing again.
- Create a DIY cleaner. There are plenty of mixtures for this out there but the easiest way to create your own cleaner by mixing baking soda and water. Place this mixture on the rag and scrub the mark.
- Stay away from abrasive methods such as bristle brushes. These methods will probably make the situation even worse.
If your walls aren’t stained but you are just looking to keep them looking clean, we have tips for that too!
