Seal Tears and Splits

The first of three repairs for drywall that we are going to go over is tears and splits. This is one of the most common damage done drywall damage. The back of a chair, the surprisingly long end of a ladder, or an upset child are just a few ways this damage can be delivered. Don’t just cover these tears up with a picture frame or large piece of furniture; leaving these tears and splits open can be detrimental for your home.

Instead, grab the sander and a stain-blocking primer and get to work. Be sure to cut away any loose paper before you start. Once the primer is applied, sand the exposed edges of the drywall to remove any uneven surfaces. Wait for it to dry before applying the new coat of paint.

Fill Nail Holes and Gouges

Up next is the infamous nail holes and gouges. These pesky buggers pop out of walls from time to time because of seasonal contraction and expansion. Fortunately, they are one of the easier repairs for drywall. After removing the nail and inserting a drywall screw, all you have to do is fix the hole.

Doing this task property is fairly easy. sand down the hole, apply your joint compound with a putty knife, and soothe it over. After allowing time to dry, do the process over again. Now, you’re ready for paint to be applied to the area!

Cover and Black Stains

Any house that has been lived in for multiple years will have stains on the drywall. If Magic Eraser or a wet washcloth doesn’t get rid of the mess, it is time to purchase a special type of primer. Stain blocking primer will help block everything from crayon marks to highlighter. If you have any extra-heavy damage on your drywall, you may want to ask the professionals for a primer recommendation. Otherwise, just apply the primer with a roller to make sure the texture matches the rest of the wall. Once everything looks smooth and even, go ahead and get that paint on there!
